On Sunday 19 April, Beckenham's Junior cricket season started under blue skies and warm sunshine with our annual Open Day.
Our experienced team of coaches, now led by the Club's new Director of Coaching, Seb Connor, put nearly 200 players through their paces, at all levels of experience.
Breakfast, brunch and lunch was available from the BBQ, and beverages from the bar which did a roaring trade as hungry players - and their parents! - replaced the calories burnt during training!
One of Beckenham CC's most illustrious Juniors of the past came back to open the new nets which have been rebuilt over the winter.
Rob Key, now managing director of England's men's team cut the ribbon after answering questions from the players (and several parents) such as his favourite overseas player (Muralitharan), how important is junior cricket in finding and developing potential county and international players of the future (very), what happened at the Ashes (too long to summarise here), and when was he going to cut the ribbon!!
The regular training season starts on Sunday 26 April, and friendlies in the coming week. The hardball League season starts at the beginning of May.
