Well, there was the Good, the Bad and the Ugly in the U11 Broncos match against Bromley on Tuesday night. The Good being the team spirit and individual performances, the Bad being the result! and the Ugly the way the ball moved and behaved when we were batting!
The scorecard is up and available on Pitchero, just select the U11 Broncos Squad and the previous fixtures are there, along with this report.
Although we were beaten by a good margin, on analysis we weren't too far off. Bromley batted first, and their highest scorer was extras (28), this tells the story of where we need to work on. We need to get this down to single figures as we have done in the past.
BOWLING
We dismissed all bar 3 of the Bromley batsmen very cheaply, with both Lawrence and Raghav sat on the hattrick at one point! But we had too many wides and no balls, this cost us. This will improve, but we need to work on delivering consistent straight balls, with varied length.
FIELDING
Again, we need to work on this. Ces (c) and Shiv (vc) need to learn setting better fields, plus keeping the field in position so we don't wander. . . . . . . all the team can contribute to this, and especially when you are bowling.
BATTING
We experienced two typical cricket scenarios, the ball misbehaving (staying low and moving) and the classic batting collapse! There was some good bowling by Bromley, but we were unlucky in the way the ball behaved from one end during our innings. Our first 10 overs batting were the other end of the wicket compared to Bromley's first 10 overs - next time we'll know for a home match. Shiv was our outstanding batsman, making a great 23, hitting 4 fours in the process.
Sport is built of the 'what ifs', but if we had reduced our extras, and just one other batter how gone onto retire, then the match would have been played out quite differently. Our run rate was on target, we just ran out of wickets. I'm confident that we will improve quickly, and it is unlucky we came up against one of the divisions strongest teams in our first match.
Thank you all for your support, and let's go into the next match with a positive attitude.
Andrew.
